Dear Neighbors,
One of my favorite summer activities starts next week. People of any age (really!) can learn new skills and join the circus community on Tuesday and Wednesday late afternoons at Prospect Hill and Powder House Park. I'm so excited to be teaching beginning stilting again!
Please register soon, or invite friends to register for free! A donation of $30 per child, $50 per family is suggested but not required and includes as many classes as the student wants.
For 39 years, children, teens and adults have learned circus skills with the OPENAIR Circus of Greater Somerville. Everyone is welcome to learn new skills and join the circus community!
Classes will be 4:30pm-7:30pm on Tuesdays at Prospect Hill and Wednesdays at Powderhouse Park. Classes start June 25th and end July 25, with rehearsals the week of July 29 and performances the first weekend of August.
Equipment loans are also free so students can practice at home. Some items require measurements, so be sure to register in time to get your equipment.
View the schedule below and register at www.openaircircus.org. Minimum ages are in parentheses.
The Circus is committed to supporting the health and safety needs of all members of our community and has elected to maintain infectious disease precautions. All participants will be required to be
masked and try to maintain social distancing. Masks will be available.
*While this class is open to ages 5-12 with parent(s) and/or caregiver(s), some acrobatic postures will be more easily performed with lighter children.
**Unlike most intermediate classes, Baton Twirling - Intermediate is available to a wider range of prior experience. Students with any of the following skills may join the class: Baton Twirling, Poi, or Juggling.
***Please remember that we are not providing spotters this year.
****Stilters joining this class must be able to do a basic forward kick with each leg and be able to hop on one foot.
*****This class will be offered as 2 25-minute class times (5:30-5:55 and 6:00-6:25) with each student attending one class time per week.
Stay cool and stay in touch,
Pat Jehlen
